What to expect with Overactive Bladder during Pregnancy? |
I am 23 years old and would like to start a family in the next year or so. I am currently taking Detrol LA to help the urge to urinate but it only works once and a while. I'm really scared that my Overactive Bladder will be so bad. Has anyone on here been pregnant with OAB? I just kind of want to know what to expect. I really want kids, please help! Well, I can relate to the problem. Unfortunately, it's common to have a lot of urinary urgency during pregnancy, even without a prior diagnosis of OAB/urge incontinence. Stress incontinence tends to get worse as well, (oh, the joy). However, you really will need to talk to your doctor about it. His/her advice will probably be to stop taking the Detrol if you're trying to get pregnant. They haven't done human studies to evaluate this, but some animal studies have shown that Detrol can be harmful to the fetus, and this has caused most OBs to recommend that you not take it during pregnancy. It's also possibly unsafe to take while you're breastfeeding. |
