Pain management after surgery? Epidural or PCA? |
I am having a total hysterectomy with expected complications due to very large fibroids and a large ovary(5cmx6cm), I have been offered epidural or PCA for pain management post op. Has anyone had either and what are your thoughts. Am really scared about the thought of an Epidural. I had a emergency hysterectomy with expected complications do to blood clots in my lungs. They knocked me out. I didn't want to know what was going on. I had very lg. fibroids and my uterus weighed 10 lbs. I felt so much better after it was over. Make sure you get up and start walking around as soon as they tell you, you will heal faster. And take your pain medicine because it will help your body to heal. Good Luck to you. PCA are better because you can control how much you get. I believe epidurals only block the nerve. And you are unable to move. Take the pca that way you can press the button every 8 min for pain control |
