What is a method of severe pain management?

88 yr old woman severe arthritis

It depends on the condition causing the pain.
If it is caused by a terminal illness, or even a chronic illness, I believe the best method is to manage the patient so that they don't begin having the pain. In other words, if they are placed on a strict regimen of pain medication every 6 hours, and their pain is on an every 5 hours schedule, they are going to start getting stressed out, expecting the pain, waiting for the meds, etc. This only makes the pain worse and harder to manage. Give small doses every hour as opposed to a larger dose after they are already in pain.

Go to a Pain Management Clinic, they are doing wonderful things now. Some recommendations are Physical Theraphy, Diet-weight loss, steroid shots and last, very last, surgery.

Avoid bonecrushers who do not have an MRI to read before attempting adjustments.

Most back pain can be cured without surgery.
