Pain management for broken leg?

I broke my leg in half like, two weeks ago and it still really hurts. It's been getting bashed a whole lot, and the initial swelling has returned.I already have an appointment with the surgeon who put the metal pole in the bone, but until then i need some way to deal with the pain, preferably without medicine.

BTW, I only don't want to use medicine because i'm sick of swallowing pills and IV fluid.

1) ICE ICE ICE! Numbs nerves 2) Concentrate on the pain leaving your body and it will help 3) HEAT! Put heat packs on your leg to warm it up and comfort it

Meditation and breathing strategies. But if it works like they say on Grey's Anatomy...porn. They claim it releases endorphines and makes you feel better. Hey could be worth a shot!! Leave it on in the background!

Elevate, yes porn, don't know. I do know mix pain meds and alcohol you can stop your heart. no pain but no breathing. theres nothing wrong with taking pain meds, unless you have a prior addiction. Stay off of it.

physical therapy?

awww, I am sooo sorry. Try not to think about it. Think about someone else :)

I'm a bad person to ask -- I react badly to all the major pain meds and ended up with Tylenol for major abdominal surgery, which ended up suiting me fine -- worked well enough but have to admit went for the Tylenol PM at night.

The worst part of the cast etc. will be when it starts to itch! Now they have all kinds of removal casts and such but back in the day, the old hard casts delivered one heck of an itch -- plus a really ugly ucky leg at the end. I employed knitting needles to get some relief.

Tell your doctor that you are still in pain! Don't be a tough guy -- pain is a signal. Sometimes it means that things just aren't right. Be the squeeky wheel -- get help.

think of that pain cannot kill you , it can only make you stronger

Well if its broken, you should probably stay off of it for awhile. Use ice and keep it wrapped in something like a brace or something. You should also take a couple of tylenol or advil to keep the swelling down too. =)
hope it feels better soon!

Get off your leg and elevate it, that usually helped me when I mine hurt.
