Pancreatitis Pain Management? |
My mother was diagnosed with pancreatitis about 3 months ago, along with Diabetes (because of Pancreatic failure). She is on a sliding scale for insulin and doesnt need a shot that often. She is also on Protonix (antacid med) and a blood pressure medication. However, she still has alot of abdominal pain, What other steps can we take to alieve the pain and how long will she be in this discomfort? also, what is the usual recovery time for pancreatitis? Thanks in advance! you can try using a hot water bottle on the area of pain for twenty minutes. I recommend papaya tablets or fresh papaya to consume as often as possible. This really helps the pancreas because of the enzymes in the papaya. If you have any further questions please let me know, Billie77 Source(s): retired doctor of Naturopathic medicine I had pancreatitis a few years ago and was given demerol in the hospital during my two week stay. after that i was given a prescription for oxycontin 40mg three times a day for a month or so. This did help however these type of opiates are quite addictive. The literature Ive read indicates that if one is truly in pain the chances for addiction are low. Having been through the pain and a few recurrences of pancreatitis I personally would take the strongest pain meds available to me. I compare the pain of pancreatitis to giving birth naturally.w/o any pain meds or blocks. The initial pain lasted me about six weeks or so and eased up. good luck and there are strong pain meds that can greatly reduce the discomfort of pancreatitis. |
