Treatment options for heavy vaginal bleeding and pelvic pain?

I'm 23 years old and have had heavy periods, heavy bleeding between periods, and sharp pelvic pain for about a year. I have been to an OB/GYN who did an ultrasound and laparoscopy and said she found nothing wrong. I have tried 4 different birth control pills in the past year to try to control this. Nothing has helped and the symptoms just seem to be getting worse. I'm also worried that I may have a problem with fertility in the future because of all of these problems. Does anyone know what this could be from? Also, does anyone have any suggestions for other solutions to this problem? My OB/GYN does not seem to want to give me any help with this besides putting me on a million birth control pills which don't work! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

(I have been sexually active 3 years ago and tested negative for STDs)

As a tenager I had the same problem, and my laparoscopy 5 years later revealed endometriosis.

Now, I know you had a laparoscopy and the MD found nothing, however, my point is if the MD is not willing to pursue other ideas after you've voiced your concerns and doesn't seem to be aggressive enough for you, it's time to look for another MD for a second opinion.

It took me 8 doctors before someone found my problem.

So that would be my next step if I were you.

Good luck. I know what you're going through, it's very frustrating

Also, have you tried depo-provera instead of oral contraceptives?

PS, someone else said something about endometriosis, but surely that's what the doctor was looking for by performing your laparoscopy and found nothing. However, my GYN was telling me about endometriosis that presents to what he analogized as "black ice", the tissue isn't necessarily red, it looks like whatever tissue it's growing on.
More reason for a second opinion.

My mother had this problem and was just telling me about it the other day. She lived with the bleeding and pain for more than 10years, she had tried birth control pills and gave up on them. Then one day an ob/gyn asked her to try again. They still didn't work. The ob/gyn had her try several more until finally one worked! The bleeding stopped. So don't give up. Keep trying other pills until you find one that works for you. My mom said she wises she would have kept trying years before and saved herself the pain.

Oh, and she had 3 kids 8years later.
but no one can say about you except your Dr. If they tell you there is nothing worng, insist you hurt! It is the Dr's job to help you. If they don't listen, go to a different Dr. Keep pushing until they fix it. I say that as a nurse. Sometimes you get the best care when you are loud and make them listen. don't let them push you in and out, make them fix you.

First, get another OB/GYN. You may have endometriosis, which is somewhat common amongst young women. Please find another doctor!

Please go see another OBGYN, these are not normal symptons, by any means. Just because they didn't see or find anything the first time doesn't mean that a problem doesn't exist. Also, I am not saying your doc is wrong... it just never hurts to have a second opion... everyone looks at things differently you know.. Best of luck to you, and God Bless!

has your doctor not started you on a strong anti inflamatory drug? That is the best thing to control heavy gyny bleeding and pain of unknown origin. A huge percentage of gyny bleeding and pain is simply of unknown origin and most docs treat symptoms as they show. Ditch the birth control and ask your doc to start you on a strong anti inflammatory for gyny probs.

Get a second opinion. And if that doesn't help, get a third opinion.

My boyfriend had 3 doctor's tell him he had the flu and treated him with Nyquil...the 4th doctor discovered he had cancer. You know your body! Trust your instincts!

Go to a diff doc.

Go to a different doctor!
