I am 45, and my doc thinks I should have the ovaries taken out so that my pelvic pain is resolved, and so that no future surgeries are needed. I am concerned about taking HRT but he assures me that it's safe. Anyone have any advice for me? I am having this done laparscopically and robotically so my recovery time is cut in half. Instread of an 8 week recovery, it's 4. Thanks,
Well your surgery sounds much less complicated then the traditional abdominal hysterectomy I'd had done a few years ago. You mention that only your ovaries are going to be removed? Do they have a cyst or adhesion's on them? Do you have Endometriosis? I"ve had that, and the pain is very severe. I think you'll fly through the surgery and be happier afterward since your pain level will lesson dramatically. I take Estradiol for my HRT and I'm 42. This is a natural hormone that is way safer to use than a lot of the traditional hormones like Prevarin which is made from a Mare's urine. Good luck with your surgery! In July 2004 I had a procedure done called Uterine Fibroid Embolisation (UFE) it was the practically non-invasive and some what pain free there is discomfort but recovery time is less than 2weeks. Small micro scopic pellets are passed through your groin area into you tubes to block blood supply to your uterus and ovaries. It more medical details that you should look in to,but I'm glad i made this choice over surgical hysterectomy i was back home in my own bed in 24hrs. check into it. The only draw back was that i went straight in to menopause and i do suffer with HOT FLASHES /cold night sweats ,but the only thing my dr. suggested was soy milk or soy supplements and i also take black kahoosh root no HRT and I'm now 52yrs young GOOD LUCK to you...any suggestions on the hot flashes any one.
