Why is it bad if sudden, severe pelvic pain occurs with or without menstruation?

Because it could signal a serious infection such as pelvic inflammatory disease, which can cause infertility if left untreated. Other causes of severe pelvic pain could be endometriosis, fibroids, or cysts. If this is happening to you, you should get in to see your doctor as soon as you can. It could be nothing, but would be good to rule out something serious. Some women also experience pelvic pain during ovulation.

Pelvic pain can be caused by many things - could be a pelvic infection, could be cysts, fibroids, ectopic pregnancy, endometriosis, adenomyosis, a bladder infection, etc. - but in general, it's a sign that something is wrong.

it could be anything from polycystic ovaries to ovulating. leave it for a while, apply heat and try not to do anything overly strenuous. If the pain doesnt go in the next few days, go and see your doctor.

However, I would strongly recommend that you go to the nearest minor emerency center or to the emergency room, depending on how severe the pain currently is, and get this checked out. It is better to be safe than sorry. Also, remember the life you save, may just be your own. I don't mean to scare you, but please don't wait around to be this taken care of.
