Pelvic exam pain, worried?


I'm going to the doc in a few days because I've had deep pain during sex followed by light bleeding. I've never had a problem like this before. I'm worried about the exam being painful. Can anyone tell me what to expect? I've never had a painful pelvic exam. Should I expect a routine exam or will my doctor do anything different?
I'm not looking for suggestions on what might be causing my pain. I already a have a few ideas on what it could be.

that must suck to have pain during sex. like the other lady said, your doc will just feel your belly, poke and prod you and then examine you inside. i would think that once the tools are in, if you feel pain the doc may be able to see what is wrong. maybe you should take a couple of tylenol or aleve maybe even iboprofen so the pain is minimal.
every time i go to the dr. the exam is kinda painful. i guess maybe uncomfortable and just a little painful. oh, BTW, when i was much younger i had irregular periods so i went to the dr. the gyn had to check for cycsts in my ovaries and do you know how he did it?! where the sun don't shine while pressing on my belly.
well, it was very uncomfortable.
I couldn't imagine the exam being any more painful than the sex. I also have very painful sex and sometimes I would rather go to the gyn and get an in-depth exam than have intercourse, lol. He/she might press a little harder than normal in some areas to see if they are more painful than other places, but nothing too extreme. Good luck and hope everythings ok! (They still haven't figured out why I have the problems I have, extremely painful intercourse being one of them.)
