Pelvic Girdle Pain?

Hi
I think I am suffering from Pelvic Girdle Pain and I am looking for some help for coping with it.
I have tremendous pain in my left buttock and hip and am finding it extremely difficult to walk. I am 38 weeks pregnant and this has only come on in the last week or so, although it is getting increasingly more painful. It's agony to turn over in bed or even climb the stairs.
I am still working but taking it easy and can't really afford to give up until next week, as I had planned.
I have looked on the web for some solutions but nothing seems to be working - has anyone any advice please?!
Many thanks

I had this too, although not as severely as you, by the sound of things. I got a wide elastic "bump support" (it probably has a proper name!) from the physiotherapy department at my hospital on the advice of my midwife. It was a bit hot and sweaty, but it did give my bump some support and eased the pressure and pain. Ask your midwife, I'm sure she'd have some solutions for you. At least you know you don't have long to go! Good luck with the birth.
The most logical explanation for that is the increasing pressure of the baby's head into your pelvis. This compresses the nerves. One way to relieve it is to ease the tension from it. by either assuming a side lying position, trendelenburg position or the hips elevated but this is uncomfortable too because the baby will be compressing your lungs and you may find it difficult to breath.
Just hang on, its just part of the birthing process, once you see your baby, all the pain will disappear and would not have any idea how you endure the pain.
Congrats for the coming baby.
YAY F0xymoron (see answer above). Theres a contraption called the "bellybra". And OH the relief!
I have the same problem but no advice. I'm looking for a solution too. My doc keeps telling me it's cause I am still wearing high heels but I think he's crazy. I hurt when I wear flats too
Your ever-expanding tummy puts ever-increasing stress on the bones, joints, and muscles in your pelvis and back.
If you're hurting, you're not alone. As many as 80 percent of pregnant women experience pelvic pain at some point, mostly in that final trimester when stress on the pelvic region is especially intense. But pelvic girdle pain can hit at almost any point in the pregnancy, and its impact can range from minor (a few twinges) to debilitating (ouch!!).
Acupuncture is an increasingly popular way to alleviate all kinds of pregnancy ills, including pelvic pain. But if you need relief right now and acupuncture isn't a handy option, here are other things to try:
*Use a heating pad on the most painful muscles or joints.
*Purchase (and wear) a pelvic girdle, aka a prenatal belt (readily available online), which can provide support for your belly (and relief for your pelvis).
*Sleep on your side with a pillow between your knees to keep hips aligned.
*If pain is severe, talk to your practitioner about pregnancy-safe pain relievers or muscle relaxants.
Good Luck and God Bless
Hi there

I had pubic symphysis disorder - not sure if that's the same thing but like you was in agony - right on my pubic bone. It started at about 20 weeks for me and got worse each day I was pregnant. It was so painful to turn over in bed, and getting out of the car was even worse. When I saw my midwife at a routine check-up I mentioned to her about this pain and she referred me to physio. It did help a little bit but not anything really noticible. A lot of people swear by it but for me, it left me aching for days from all the poking and prodding and then about a day of slight relief, then back to the pain again.

I finished work at 38 weeks and before work in the morning and after work in the evening I had to walk half a mile to my car. Wouldn't be a problem normally but when you've got a huge baby inside you and you feel like your pelvis is going to give way it's a tad more difficult. It would take me about an hour and a half to walk it and was in absolute agony by the end of it and then when I got into work I had to do loads more walking around, it was a nightmare. I couldn't afford to go on maternity leave until the date we planned (like you) when I first got pregnant so I just had to sit it out until my final day. I just sat down for the final 2 weeks of my pregnancy as I figured I more than deserved it!

Good luck with the rest of the pregnancy. Hope all goes well for you. Speak to your midwife about physio.

xx
