Is there any cure for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome? Hysterecomy? |
I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and have 2 children. I do not want any more and would like to finally get rid of the symptoms associated with PCOS, like weight gain, and increased hair. Any suggestions? Hysterectomy is not a cure for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. PCOS is an endocrine (hormone) disorder. The only thing that can be done at this time is to manage symptoms. I take the pill and a medication called Aldactone to help my PCOS. The Aldactone helps control the water retention (this can cause the weight gain for many). Some women use Glucophage to help some of the issues with weight too because some of them have Insulin Resistance, others may use a low carb diet. Here's an excellent site to learn even more about PCOS as well as what some of the ladies are doing for their PCOS: http://www.pcosupport.org Source(s): Been dealing with PCOS for 10 years. Hysterectomy would be my choice. I would get a hysterectomy. Hope you have a good gynecologist & good luck to you! I was diagnosed with it also years ago. It is a resistance to insulin so I'd check with your dr. and weigh the pros and cons of a hysterectomy vs. managing the PCOS symptoms. Have you altered you diet to reduce carbs/sugars? If you're truly done with childbearing than get the hystrectomy, there will be symptoms associated with that as well though. Research and weigh out the pros and cons. I am 26 and have PCOS and my doc has me on Avandia, Flutamide and Yasmin. The avandia is helps your cells process sugar correctly. the flutamide blocks the extra testosterone in your system. even if you get a hysterectomy your body is still not going to process the sugar correctly. I say talk to you doctor and maybe find a specialist who knows about alternative ways to treat the symptoms. and there is really no "cure" for PCOS. |
