I have just started trying to get pregnant but I have polycystic ovary syndrome and im 32 years old.?

Has anyone here got the same problem? any tips? how long do I have to wait until I can get drugs for it? I heard there is a drug to stimulate the ovaries. can I get those straight away I do i need to try natually for some time before?

I have the same condition, im 24 and ive been trying for a baby for over 2 years now, ive been tested and I am ovulating normally (which is more or less a miracle when ou have the syndrome) but the doc still gave me metformin, it helps to balance my hormones and hopefully, soon, will help me to concieve. You need to have been trying for a baby for at least a year and youhave to get your partner tested too. Other things that may help are weight loss, excercise, healthy eating, giving up smoking etc all the things ''normal'' women have to do to healthily concieve.

Go and see the doc, tell him you are anxious and cant wait a year to know your chances, ask him for a 21 day progesterone test which will tell you if you are ovulating properly.

Good luck, talk to your doctor anyway and I hope you dont have to wait as long as I have! xxxx
I would go and visit your OBGYN! They can help out a lot.
I have the same thing and I never got pregnant naturally. Every obgyn I went to told me that whenever I wanted to get pregnant to go back to them and that they would give me some pills.
I'm sorry I do not know, but I also have polycystic ovarian syndrome and I'm only 17 years old. I even had to go so far as to get my fallopian tube cut. But my doctor said that I can still have kids (when im older!) If i can, i see no reason why u can't have kids just because of that.Talk to your OB/GYN and see what he or she says. Good Luck!
I would advise trying naturally first. (at least 6 months) Many people get pregnant without any intervention at all. This is the best way.

The second step would be to see you GP, who might do some blood tests to check your ovulation status.

The next step would be a possible referral to a gynaecologist who may prescribe who may prescribe a drug to help you ovulate called Clomifene.

"Ovulation induction with clomifene: clomifene is an effective treatment for anovulation, and may be used in selected women [Hughes et al, 2004]. The following needs to be noted:
The Committee on Safety of Medicines (CSM) recommend that no more than six cycles are given.
Long-term cyclical therapy is also not recommended [CSM, 1995; ABPI Medicines Compendium, 2002].

NICE recommends treatment for up to 12 cycles. Use beyond this has been associated with an increased risk of ovarian cancer [Rossing et al, 1994; National Collaborating Centre for Women's and Children's Health, 2004].

Ovarian ultrasound monitoring of at least the first cycle where clomifene is prescribed is important, to titrate the drug to an appropriate dose and reduce the likelihood of multiple pregnancy [National Collaborating Centre for Women's and Children's Health, 2004].

Counselling, with regard to the risks of multiple pregnancy, ovarian hyperstimulation, foetal reduction, and possible risk of ovarian cancer, should be given.
