Polycystic ovary syndrome- losing weight? |
i'm 14, and was told i had this at age 12. i gained weight from the first pill my doctor put me on- i was up to 183. i lost around 35 lbs by atkins and then ending up gaining some of it back when i went off because of stomach problems. i now weigh 155 lbs. i'm 5'4' and i know i should weight around 15-20 lbs less than this. i'm currently on yasmin birth control to regulate my period, and this is the pill i lost the 35 lbs on, so it's not the pills. what is a good way to lose weight when you have this? It can be especially difficult to lose weight when you have PCOS. Eat sensibly, and exercise. Get involved in sports at school, or out side of school activities that will keep you active. Pick something that will keep your interest: Dance several times a week, gymnastics, cheering etc... There are so many activities these days, it doesn't have to be just sports, as long as it is several times a week. Also try to keep your junk food intake to an absolute minimum. Maybe a couple of chips if you are at a party but otherwise stay away from junk food. Find healthy alternatives to everyday recipes and offer to help cook at home one or two nights a week so you can make healthier versions of your favorites. Avoid soda - even diet soda is bad for you! And drink LOTS of water. IF you don't like plain water, try adding a few drops of lemon juice or lime juice to it. If it is still not something you like, try adding 2 oz of 100% fruit juice to 8 oz of water to give it a little flavor but keep the calorie count down. You should be drinking between 64 and 100 ounces of water A DAY! GOOD LUCK! And try not to worry too much about your weight in numbers, but about how you feel about yourself! Keep a check on your daily intake of food. When you say diet - you have in mind to restrict from certain foods for a period of time. But instead try inculcating good food habits n make it a part of your daily routine n life style. I am 25 and I have pcos.
