Pregnancy confirmed or not ?

My friend underwent IVF on March 5th. This was her first attempt. When the HCG levels were checked on 14 March she got 2ml which was the first sign of being positive. Again when it was checked on 17th it was 5 + which showed a increasing HCG level.
Then an ultrasound was done on 20 march and the Dr informed that the endometrium is coming down. It was initially 10 on the 17th march and when the scanning was done on 20th it was 9. She said that the gestational sac was not visible as well.
Now the Dr has asked them to come for further medications for the next cycle of IVF and they are really confused what to do.
Can somebody please tell us what might have happened . They are confused now whether or not she is pregnant.
What other ways can they confirm if she is pregnant or not ?

if the endometrium is coming down,that means,she will be having her period:she is not pregnant.But,she can do a home pregnancy test, if she cant believe it.
She must know, it may take several attempts of IVF to get her pregnant,this was the first one.
