When using the rthym method to prevent pregnancy...is it before or after the womens cycle do you go without?

sex and for how long?

Thank you!

I hate when people dismiss the rhythm method, it has its place. Aside from religious reasons not to use contraceptives, some people prefer not to use them for health or other reasons. I can no longer use birth control pills because they gave me a blood clot. I have since learned that MANY women have this side effect and the doctors keep prescribing the pills, and the pharmaceutical companies keep making them. My doctor told me that if I did not smoke, which I don't, than I did not have to worry about the side effects...guess not. Besides the fact that you are taking hormones which can affect how you feel and your state of mind. So, I would not suggest using pills. As far as condoms, I think they are a hassle. I don't like how they feel and I don't like having to think about stopping and putting one on. So, the rhythm method is not the most affective method, but if you are married and/or not worried about stds or the possibility of getting pregnant go for it. I know several women who have done it with a lot of success, but it is a gamble as you can ovulate at irregular times. But if you are aware that you may get pregnant, and don't mind, then use the rhythm method. It does not mean you will have 10 kids, I would hope you would have enough sense to realize that it's not working for you before then and consider another method or getting your tubes tied. It's something that I'm considering, but I'm not sure on the particulars, so I would have your gyno explain it to you.

I think Catholics do this, and that is why they have lots of kids, my parents are Catholic and I am the oldest of 10. So you can see how well this method works. I would use a condom, but not birth control pills as they are getting recalled left and right for causing problems in woman.

It's before that you want to lax on the sex. But, there is ALWAYS the chance you can get pregnant. You can get pregnant DURING your period too, which a lot of people think you can't. I still suggest pregnancy pills or a condom!!

To prevent pregnancy with this method you go without sex all the time as it is extremely ineffective. So unless you are ready to be a mom then either abstain or use another method
