Would a pregnancy test be accurate if taken a a few days before you get your period?

I should be getting my period in about 5 or 6 days. I've been on birth control for 10 years now and for some reason I have a bad feeling. I just started on Yasmine last month and I havent missed any pills.

**I WOULD PREFER PEOPLE WITH A MEDICAL BACKGROUND TO ANSWER MY QUESTION....SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE.

Also, for five days now my right nipple has been red and swollen. It first started with an itch as if my bra irritated it. It no longer itches, but what could it be?

From a Nurse:
Pregnancy tests can work several days before your period is due, but mostly can be counted on for a positive result. A negative result may mean that you need to wait longer. Don't waste your money, wait until your period is late. Chances are that things are OK if you haven't missed any pills or taken any new medications.
Nipple irritation could be caused by a new bra or detergent or from friction experienced during exercise. If it continues, see a doctor. Otherwise don't sweat it.

RN checking in.

what kind of bad feelings are you having?

there are several pregnancy tests that are accurate several days before your missed period (EPT), but they increase in accuracy the closer to your missed period that you are.

take a deep breath, no matter what, or what you choose - life will be OK and go on. wait it out, have a glass of water.

if it would make you feel better, take a test now. but they can be pricey. might be best to wait a week or so. new birth controls can effect your feelings and your body in many many ways. if you took the pill regularly, as directed, you should be OK, but no form of birth control - as im sure you know - is going to be 100%.

good luck!

I don't have a medical background but everytime I was pregnant, I knew I was from almost day one.
With my 2nd child, took a pregnancy test 3 days before my period was due and with my 3rd child, I took a test 5 days before it was due. Both test were positive.

With both of my pregnancies I got a positive 3 days before my missed period with a Dollar Tree test. They are very sensitive and accurate. There is no such thing as a false positive.

This is coming directly from my box of First Response pregnancy tests in my bathroom. Those "99% accurate five days sooner" tests are sneaky and you have to read the fine print. They're only 99% accurate from the first day of your missed period, and you can't test until 4 days before (so you still need to wait at least 2 days).

4 days before your period: 63% accurate
3 days before: 83% accurate
2 and 1 day before: 93% accurate.

Even 93% accuracy still leaves a 7% chance of error.

You probably have a "bad feeling" because it takes time for your body to adjust to a new brand of birth control, and even then, you don't fully "trust" it until you get your period on it. I was the same way. I went through 3 brands of pills in one and 1/2 years (Yaz for 3 months, Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for 1 year, and Tri-Sprintec 28 for 2 months).

You should wait until you're scheduled to get AF (Aunt Flow) and test then if it's late. Stressing yourself out about it won't accomplish anything (and can make you miss your period).
