Pregnancy tests..i dont understand? |
if you have sex a few days after your period, do you have to wait another 4 weeks to do a pregnancy test after your missed period? or can you take it say 2 weeks after unprotected sex? No, the pregnancy test relies on a certain minimum rise in HCG levels, human chorionic gonadotrophin. These elevations are usually not detectable until 2 or 3 days after your period is missed. If you have sex a few days after your period and your period isn't due for another 4 weeks then it was very likely way too early to get pregnant. You don't ovulate until about 2 weeks before your period, you can only get pregnant within the 5 days before or during ovulation (sperm can live up to that long, though they may not live that long). It takes about 7 to 10 days for implantation to occur and can take a few more days till your hcg is high enough to come up on a pregnancy test. So if you had a 28 day cycle and ovulated on day 14 (everyone is different...this is just an example) the egg would implant somewhere between day 21 and 24 and within a few days of that you would be able to get a positive test. The reason you should wait till a missed period is because not everyone has a cycle that is exactly like that. well of course you could be pregnant anytime after you have unprotected sex. |
