WeightWatchers and Pregnancy?

WeightWatchers and Pregnancy?
Hi everyone.....need your help/advice please.

Currently on W.Watchers (UK) and steadily losing weight (1-2lbs per week)
Eating healthily too, and enjoying regaining my 'old' slimmer figure.
Saying that, I was never very large (started at 11st 13lbs, & want to return to 10st 8lbs) I'm 5.8.

My question is this: My husband and I are trying for a baby, and will it be safe to continue eating the WW way? (For those who know the point system...I'm allowed 22 points per day)

I know that you don't have to eat for two during pregnancy, and that you only need an additional 200 calories in the last 2 months.

Would it be alright to continue on my plan, and then stop at 6-7 months???

I really dont want to gain too much weight during pregnancy. Of course, I realise I WILL....but only the normal amount...not kilos and kilos.

Thanks for your help! :) x

Firstly my advice would be to consult your GP. No one on here can give you full medical advice and a check up before you fall pregnant would reassure you and give you the correct path forward.

Are you taking folic acid? If not do, as soon as possible. This is essential for the growth of the baby in the early months and the earlier you take it (they advise for three months before you conceive and three months after) the better.

WW is a good diet to be on as you have the freedom to eat most foods and the weight you are loosing weekly isn't excessive. You must insure that you, when pregnant incorporate the following foods in your daily diet.

Fresh vegetables and fruits (organic if you can afford it, if not make sure you wash everything well before eating.

Starchy foods such as bread, pasta, rice and potatoes - try to choose wholegrain options.

Foods rich in protein such as lean meat and chicken, fish (aim for at least two servings of fish a week, including one of oily fish), eggs and pulses (such as beans and lentils). These foods are also good sources of iron.

Plenty of fibre. This helps prevent constipation and is found in wholegrain bread, pasta, rice, pulses and fruit and vegetables.

Dairy foods such as milk, cheese and yogurt, which contain calcium.

It's also a good idea to cut down on foods such as cakes and biscuits, because these are high in fat and sugar. This can also help you to avoid putting on too much weight during pregnancy.

Healthy snacks to have instead include malt loaf; currant buns without icing; sandwiches or pitta bread filled with cottage cheese, chicken or lean ham; low-fat yoghurt's; vegetable and bean soups; and fruit including fresh, tinned in juice or dried fruit such as raisins or apricots.

Good luck hun, I hope you soon get the news you want :-))

Yes you can, my wife went to Scottish Slimmers when she was pregnant.

It is fine to stick to WW diet until you get pregnant, but once you are actually pregnant it is not advisable to diet. You should aim to eat healthily and not for two, so that you dont put on any more weight than the recommended weightgain for pregnancy. Once you have the baby, you should then be able to pick up your diet where you left off and continue with your weightloss.

If you are concerned about gaining too much weight during pregnancy, you can ask to be referred to a nutritionist at the maternity hospital and she will help guide you through your pregnancy. I had a nutritionist and she was brilliant.

Best of luck. x
