Why progesterone followed by estrogen given when they donot want pregnancy what is the mode of action? The levels of progesterone and estrogen prevent horomones from being released that cause you to ovulate (to release an egg). If you don't release the egg you can't get pregnant. During pregnancy you have higher levels of progesterone and estrogen and this is what birth control pills/patches/rings imitate. When you are on the 4th week of pills you have withdrawl bleeding from the lack of hormones that is your period. The progesterone and estrogen must be started again then to prevent ovulation all over again. The way it works is this. A woman produces these hormones in very precisely measured amounts and in perfect synchronisation. The amount and sync have to be just right to for pregnancy to occur thats why its SUCH a miracle that it happens so often. Almost without fail. God is The Genius of all times. When you give a lady hormones from outside it really screws up her perfect synchrony thats required for ovulation and for production of the cervical mucous or for that matter the ovarian lining where the fertilised egg(called embryo) is supposed to implant. Infact estrogen followed by progesterone isnt the only thing that can be given for contraception. Estrogen alone or progesterone alone would also do the trick. Its just that this is the most effect and safe and healthy combination there is so thats whats mostly prescribed unless a lady has specific needs. |
