I had a hysterectomy in 1996, I just had a positive pregnancy test. Could that indicate cancer? |
I have been having bladder spasms for about 6 months now which is why I had the urine test done. I overdosed largely on aspirin and sleeping pills last June. I was hooked up to have Dialysis done but thankfully it wasn't required. Ever since I have been having problems with my bladder. Nobody seems to know what is going on. I am on Phenazopyridine for the pain. It comes on sometimes all by itself and other times after intercourse. I cannot handle this pain anymore. It is unbearable. Just wondering if anyone else has had similar symptoms and what the outcome for them may have been. I am worried about the positive pregnancy test however as I know it could mean cancer...Then I am not sure if it may be my kidneys...It is not a bladder infection. Any suggestions would be greatly accepted...Thank-you. Amanda I would go and get checked out by your Dr. If you have had a hysterectomy then I really doubt that you are pregnant, but different things can cause a positive pregnancy test. Protein in your urine, hormonal changes associated with menopause, some medications (rare), certain cancers, or just a faulty test. I would retest with a different brand and see what you get, and then I would definatly go and talk to your Dr about it. And just for the record, a chemical pregnancy is not what the pervious poster said. A chemical pregnancy is infact a proper pregnancy that just ends in a very early miscarriage. The egg gets fertilized but for some reason it doesn't implant properly, yet it creates enough HCG, the pregnancy hormone, to register either a positive home pregnancy test or a postive blood test. Because for whatever reason the pregnancy does not continue as normal, your period usually shows up on time or a little bit late. The reason it's called a chemical pregnancy is because it is too early for the fetus to be seen by ultrasound, and the only indication of pregnancy is chemically. 50% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage, and a great deal of those are chemical pregnancies. If you have had a hysterectomy, then you would not be having a chemical pregnancy. Talk to your Dr, they will know what to do and will be able to find out what's going on. Good luck. If you had a hysterectomy a natural pregnancy would be impossible. However there is such a thing as a chemical pregnancy where certain antibiotics mess your hormones around enough that it shows on a urine test. You should be in close contact with your doctor about the situation. Best wishes. |
