OnLy SERIOUS ANSWERS PLEASE! how severe is iron deficiency anemia during pregnancy? what are the severe risk?

i am anemic, and my mom told me i could die during delivery if i do not take my iron pills. i am scared as hell now. I AM ALMOST 37 WEEKS.

I can not believe you are asking this NOW! Your Doctor should have explained this to you in no uncertain terms!
Take your Iron Pills! Iron and Folate are the most important minerals for foetal formation as are calcium.

I can not write enough here to tell you just how importatnt this is. Take your pills.
You lose a lot of blood during birth so if you are low in iron which contribute to haemoglobin, the stuff that carries oxygen through the blood to all the vital organs, you will be lacking in oxygen due to blood loss.

Low blood pressure and loss of consciousness are a real possibilty. There is more, I recommend you talk to your doctor about this and tell him what has happened.

Good luck.

There are three primary reasons that a sufficient iron intake to prevent anemia is important. First, iron is necessary for the formation of maternal and fetal hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying component of blood. Since a woman's blood volume increases by 25 to 40 percent during pregnancy, and the baby is manufacturing blood cells, too, the need for iron increases putting the mother at risk for anemia. Second, during the last trimester, the baby draws from the mother some of the iron reserves that it will need during the first four to six months of life. Third, the increased blood volume and iron stores help your body adjust, to some degree, to the blood loss that occurs during childbirth.

if your doctor hasnt said anything about it, it probably isnt a big deal. However, if you know you are anemic, you might be better off taking your iron pill with your doctors permission
It's Okay! You should take your iron pills if you can, but I was severely anemic too, and was very sick during my pregnancies and so couldn't keep those pills down! I delivered 2 healthy kids. After the baby, though, if you're looking for birth control, look into the Mirena IUD, because it helps minimize periods, which can really help with anemia. you'll be fine! Just think about some of the awful things people do when they're pregnant and still come out of it alright. Take the supplements when you can, but don't stress yourself out about it! Good luck and take care. Congratulations!
dont be too scared go to the doc and make sure you know whats up be informed it eases fear. good luck to you and your baby be well take care
