When you donate blood or have a pap smear, does this detect pregnancy?

I have recently donated blood, had a pap smear, and done two Home Pregnancy Tests (both showed negative). If I were pregnant, would it show up on my blood donation and them notify me? And would my doctor have picked it up in a pap smear?

Hi!

Sorry sweetie...the answer to the first part of your question is a resounding "NO". The blood banks do many tests to your blood upon donation (screen for AIDS, Hep-C, etc) but a pregnancy test is not one of them. They would not contact you, because they don't test for that.

As far as the pap smear thing goes, that's possible, but not very likely. If you were to be pregnant, the only way that your doctor would know anything from a pap smear is if your cervix had noticeable VISUAL changes to it...during pregnancy, the cervix becomes darker, and changes it's shape somewhat. Having said that, please understand that it is during the last trimester of pregnancy that these changes to the cervix are easily noticeable. As you've gotten two negative preg. tests, it's very unlikely that you are actually pregnant.

To be 100% sure of things, I strongly suggest that you go back to your doctor and ask for a pregnancy test. Their pregnancy tests are much more accurate than the urine at-home tests are - they look for the pregnancy hormones in your blood & check the levels.

I've personally found that the drug store pregnancy tests can be waaaay off...I was four months pregnant with my fourth child, and wasn't sure if I was indeed pregnant - I'd had my period, but felt pregnant...I tested myself with THREE home pregnancy tests, and all were negative. I then finally went to my doc, he did the test, and voila! There she was! Trust me...the doctor's test is much, MUCH better.

Hope this helps you somewhat :o)
The doctor would have to run a pregnancy test to be sure.
NO these do not detect pregnancy.

The pregnancy blood test looks for a certain hormone that pregnant woment make.
No, a pap smear and a blood donation would not detect if you were pregnant.
No and no.
Blood donations are not screened for pregnancy; only diseases that could potentially harm the recipient (HIV, syphilis, hepatitis, etc.) are tested for.

Your gynecologist might have noted a change in your cervix or uterus during a pelvic exam, but it's not always noticeable. If you don't ask for a pregnancy test, they don't give one. A PAP smear only checks cervical cell scrapings, and you can't detect pregnancy there.

If your home pregnancy tests are coming up negative, you probably aren't pregnant. If you're still not getting your period though, you should see a doctor to rule out anything serious.

If you don't want to be pregnant, you should hold off on having sex until you're using a reliable method of BC.

Good luck.
well not at all a blood test and a pap smear is done in order to rule out HIV human immuno deficiency virus! it is nothin to do with detecting pregnancy
