Can having an IUD prevent fertilized eggs from attaching or can they really prevent pregnancy?

I'm trying to find a good birth control besides using an IUD. I'm married and monogamous. I'm 35.

No the egg and sperm attach and become a baby, the IUD keeps it from being able to implant, so it aborts itself.
An IUD is implated in the uterine wall creating an irritation that prevents the attachment of eggs. An IUD remains an uncommon method of birth contro since toxic shock syndrome scares in the 1970's. While they appear to work there are many other choices too.

In response to others...preventing implantation of the eggs is the same thing you said....unfertilized eggs dont implant at all.
