I have a question about the 7 'reminder' pills of Birth Control and if they protect against pregnancy?


Okay, i am still confused about this. During the time that i take my 7 'reminder' pills of Birth Control, i am suposed to get my period. But, i usually dont get it at all. If i dont get my period at this time, and still have sex, can i get pregnant, or am i protected during this time as well? I have heard different things and now im confused. I heard that they only protect you from pregnancy if you have your period at that time. i also heard that they are just 'sugar pills', so how can sugar pills protect aginst pregnancy?

When you take the 21 pills in your pack, they are preventing your body from ovulating. The pills have hormones in them to keep your hormones level so that it doesnt get the siginal to ovulate. The 7 reminder pills dont have these hormones in them, so that you can have your period this week. But usually, it is not a 'real' period because no egg is released. It may take a few days after you start the reminder pills to get a period, so dont be alarmed if you dont get one for a few days. Your period may also be shorteer and lighter. Break-through bleeding, or bleeding when your taking the 21 active pills, is normal and nothing to worry about.

The 7 reminder pills are not medication and serve only as reminder pills. No additional birth control is required during this week, meaning you should be protected during pregnancy AS LONG AS you have been taking all the other pills correctly asnd on time.

Keep in mind: If you have been having diarrhea and/or vomiting, the pill may be less effective.
Sugar pills don't protect you from pregnancy. Bottom line is you need to consult your physician about your lack of menstruation, and your concerns with the contraceptive pill so that you are sure to gain the knowledge to avoid pregnancy.
That is not correct... you are still protected against pregnancy, although the reminder pills do not contain any medication. Your body does not have time to ovulate in the 7 off days, so you are safe. The period you get while on the pill is not a real period, since you never ovulated. It is a symptom of hormone withdrawal.

If you don't get a period for two months while on the pill, you should see your doctor.
