Umm..if you're taking birth control to regulate your period, does it still work to prevent pregnancies?

Yes. The pill contains either a natural or synthetic version of the hormone progesterone (and sometimes estrogen, depending on the brand you take). Progesterone prevents pregnancy 3 ways. It inhibits ovulation, thickens the the cervical mucus so sperm can't get through and makes the uterine lining inhospitable to a fertilized egg.
If you are taking the birth control correctly then yes it should as its main function is to prevent pregnancy. I presume you're on the combined pill?

That's generally one of the more pleasant side effects. Unless you are on an extremely low-dosage one. In which case probably use a back-up method.
