How do I prepare myself for day surgery to remove breast lump?

I have to go for day surgery in a week to remove a breast lump which may or may not be benign. I've been ok up until this weekend & now I'm starting to get really nervous. I keep thinking all these crazy things that could happen & on top of that I'm worrying that it might be cancer. I really don't know how I'm going to make it through this next week without having a panic attack. Please if you have any positive stories or advice I'd really appreciate it right now!!

I've been there personally.
First off the surgery itself is nothing, neither is healing time. Dont forget no eating or drinking past midnight the night before if you are being put out.
The good news is, your lump is coming out and will be biopsied. So whatever it is, its out.
I know its easier said than done not to worry. Do whatever you need to do keep occupied. And dont be afraid to ask questions.
If (and thats a big if) it cancer realize that you've caught in now rather than later and that survival rate is good... darn good.
I've gone through this 3 times so I can shrug off the fear easily. None of those times has the lump been cancerous. So think positive and take it one day at a time.
You're a tough girl... you can do this without losing it. I promise.

There's nothing to worry about. I just had a mascatomy done and it wasn't painful like people say. just go in and get it over with.

You'll make it through the week with the knowledge that for once and all you are getting rid of whatever it is that is in your breast. That is the best thing possible for you at this time. You should look forward to it because than you will know the truth . .whether it is benign or malignant . . and than you will cope and deal with it just like everyone else. You are far stronger than you think you are and you are now ahead of the game because you are being treated.

We are dealing with my sons advanced cancer . . we deal with it every single day, every minute . . no escape. And, we cope . . and so can you.

Best of luck to you, sweetie. You will do this because you have to . . not because you want to . You need to find out the truth no matter if it is bad or good news. You can do this.

Stay strong.

Take one thing at a time. Don't worry about anything until you know you have something to worry about.

They'll put nice warm blankets over you and then when they put you under you'll just feel happy and sleepy and warm and doze off. You wake up and they send you home with pain pills. I'll been under 3 or 4 times and no problems. I had a lumpectomy and the pain was not that bad. They'll probably put this special bra on you to reduce swelling. It's hideous but it does a good job.

My advice is to just prepare your home beforehand so you can spend a day or two crashed out on the couch or in bed if you want. Get your pillows, magazines, drinks, groceries, laundry done, comfy pj's, etc so when you come home you don't have to worry about little stuff, like what to make for dinner.

Knowledge is power. After the surgery you'll know how serious or not serious it is. That you found it is a blessing.
