Blood test cd 22 checking progesterone?

hi, my doctor is sending me for a blood test on cd22 to check my progesterone levels. I didn't think to ask, but does that mean they assume I've ovulated by cd22? Sometimes that is around when I ovulate, and my progestrone levels would be higher after ovulation. Should I reschedule my blood test if I haven't ovulated by cd22?

I had similar problems when scheduling my Progesterone tests. I normally ovulate anywhere from CD17-19, and they were always scheduling the test for CD20, sometimes CD19 if were going to be on a Saturday. I finally had to let them know that I sometimes don't ovulate until the day of the test, so they gladly rescheduled them for me and put a note in my chart to only do Progesterone tests on CD22-24.

If it were me, I would call and let them know your concerns and see what they say. There is no sense in going through the blood draw if you may have not ovulated yet. Ask them how long after ovulation that they would like the test to be. When you discover that you have ovulated (either by OPK or BBT), then schedule the test for that many days later. That way you are SURE that it's being timed correctly each month. Good luck!

my doctor thought i didnt ovulate i have a 35 day cylce he sent me for progesterone test on the 22nd day and it was only 4.5 progesterone rises 5 days after you have ovulated because i have a longer cycle i had it done a week later and it was 14.5 i had ovulated on the day i had the first test ....... i am now 16.5 weeks pregnat and there was no need for me to start the clomid treatment ..... i wish you all the best .....oh dont change your appointment if its low ask to have it done a week latter again .....good luck

A standard progesterone test is usually done 7 days *after* you ovulate. Before you ovulate, it should be close to zero, so the test isn't all that helpful (how can you tell you have low progesterone when it's supposed to be low?!). There is sometimes an assumption that 21-22 days is about a week after ovulation (if you ovulate by the "Day 14" rule- which most of us don't). If your doctor is a specialist, I would hope he/she knows that.

I would call and clarify what the instructions are- maybe he/she has other reasons to do the test at this time. In my case, my doctor initially told me that she wanted me to do it on Day 7 of my cycle and I told her I thought that was wrong. After we argued for a minute, she suddenly realized that I was correct (she said had a "brain fart"- LOL- happens to the best of us!). Most doctors will have you do an OPK and schedule your appointment for 7 days after you get the positive.

Good luck!!!

My doctor had me check my progesterone levels on CD21. You should normally ovulate between days 12-19. I dont think you should reschedule. This test shows if you ovulated or not.

Hi!! They typically check your progesterone around 7 days after ovulation. That is why they do it between cd 21-23 for most women. However, if you normally ovulate later (and you know this for sure) then I would call and ask them if you should test later. They may want to see though if you are actually ovulating earlier than you think. So they may want you to have a test on cd 22 but may do another one a week or so later. Plus they may want to determine if you have a LP defect. If you have a normal length cycle (28 days) and you ovulate late then your would have a short LP. I would call to verify what you should do and what their intentions are for the test. Best wishes!!!!!!!!!!
