Progesterone Cream to help TTC?

Does anyone know of a good over the counter Progesterone Cream to help with TTC?

I've tried a couple of brands in the past and they haven't worked. I did some research, though, and there is one brand that was clinical studied by an independent researcher and found to have the same rate of exposure as prescribed progesterone. I ordered some and will be trying it this month. The brand is Pro-gest by Emerita.

The reference is: Hermann, Nafziger, Victory, Kulawy, et al. (2005). Over-the-Counter Progesterone Cream Produces Significant Drug Exposure Compared to a Food and Drug Administration鈥揂pproved Oral Progesterone Product. Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Vol 45, pgs 614-619.

I have no idea if it actually works, but I figured at least it has some research behind it (which is much better than what you usually get with OTC stuff). Good luck!!!

i dont think you use it when ttc but rather when your actually pg. If you have normal progesterone numbers (you may want to get checked out) its better NOT to use it cause it can throw your body out.

It could, if your body is not producing enough progesterone.

It's very important that you don't take any progesterone before ovulation. Start taking it 3 days after ovulation.

If progesterone is really a problem for you, those over-the-counter cremes are probably not enough. Get a progesterone blood test done at 7 days past ovulation -- this has to involve a doctor. If the result is that your progesterone level is low, your doctor will prescribe you prometrium (pills) crinone (foam) or progesterone suppositories.

Pills generally cause more side effects, because you need higher doses. Suppositories or foam can be messy (wear a pad), but they deliver progesterone exactly where it's needed.

K, the first poster apparently doesn't know much about Progesterone. Sometimes it NEEDS to be used while TTC in order to maintain a pregnancy early on.

I don't know of a specific brand, but I do want to give you a little info. on taking it. I am taking the suppositories prescribed by my Dr. Make sure that you DO NOT take the Progesterone before you ovulate, but a couple of days AFTER, because it will cause you NOT to ovulate. Also, Progesterone will keep you from starting your next period if you are not pregnant, so you must stop taking it when you are SURE you are not pregnant. (I recommend at least 15DPO to test to make sure) You don't want to stop the Progesterone if you are pregnant, because the sudden drop in levels could possibly induce a miscarriage.

I would suggest that you see a Dr. about this, because you may be using the cream and your levels may not be the problem, but you obviously have your reasons for wanting to do the cream, so just make sure to follow the directions carefully. Good luck!
