What do high progesterone levels mean in early pregnancy? |
I am 4 weeks and 4 days and mine was 47. and my HCG was 2041. Could there be a big chance of molar pregnancy? Hormone levels are not a good indicator of anything. Alot of people say that high HCG means twins. That is not true BUT my doctor said that high progesterone may predict multiple gestation. Mine was 218 but they think I started with triplets. My HCG at 3w6d was 268 at 4w1d was 681.I am sorry but I do not know anything about a molar pregnancy.Good luck, I hope you have a healthy pregnancy. Progesterone levels really mean nothing at all. They just like to them to be over 15 for women on fertility meds after ovulation. My levels have always been in the 40's after ovulation on treatment cycles even though I wasn't pregnant. The higher the number for those the better. Progesterone levels helps support a pregnancy. If that level lessens they can give supplements to maintain it. Drops in progesterone levels are a common cause for early miscarriages. As far as the molar pregnancy I guess there is always a chance. I dont't think your level is terribly high concidering there is such a huge variation for normal HCG levels in early pregnancy. At 5 weeks pregnant the level can be 7,000 and still be in the normal range. A high HCG level in early pregnancy can mean a multiple pregnancy, miscalculation of dates (meaning you ovulated sooner than expected, etc), molar pregnancy or nothing at all. I am sure you doctor will be rechecking this level. Also it is normal for pregnancy levels to double or even triple every 2-3 days so that is why the numbers rise quite quickly. Best wishes!!! |
