Why do I have to wait to get pregnant to be but on progesterone....?

I've had 2 miscarriages, why did my doctor tell me to make an appointment with her as soon as i find out i'm pregnant again....I miscarry early...who says i'd have time to wait acouple days....shouldnt i be on it now!?

Taking progesterone without being pregnant can delay your period (basically mess with your cycle).

You really want to wait and use pregesterone either after you've confirmed you are pregnant, or as a part of a medical procedure (such as IUI).

This is one of the few reasons I personally advocate using HPTs before AF is due. For these situations, you NEED to know as early as possible. (Normally, I'm advising women to give AF at least one shot at giving them a BFN for free rather than wasting money on HPTs in the hopes of learning a few days early... especially considering a woman only has about a 20% chance at getting pregnant in any given month, and that assumes she's timed the baby dance to her fertile period).

Oh yea, now I recall... during a normal cycle, the natural drop in progesterone levels when conception has NOT occured is what triggers the body to begin menstration. Taking progesterone messes with that natural process.

IDK why they would make you wait. I know a girl that miscarried twice they started her on progesterone, and within a few weeks she was pregnant, and now at 31 weeks her and her husband are expecting a baby girl. My sister in law also had this problem, and although they started her on Progesterone around 5 weeks, she still miscarried at 12 weeks, due to low progesterone levels. Talk to your doctor and find out why she wants you to wait, or see about getting a 2nd opinion..
