My doctor wishes to place me on an oral Chemo for my Rheumatoid Arthritis. How dangerous is this?

I was diagnosed with RA about 4 years ago, and it has been fairly uneventful with a few flare ups mostly in the hands with stiffness.

My doctor suggested taken tamoxifen which to me is not even a consideration..... I don't like the idea of chemo low dose or note. ( does the risk out weigh the benefits? )

One down side would be, it might lower your resistence to infection, by lowering your white blood cell count. My experience has only been with cancer patients, so maybe this side effect would only be negligible in low dose. Best of luck.

A beneficial side effect of tamoxifen is that behaves as an agonist in bone, preventing bone loss by inhibiting osteoclasts, and therefore it prevents osteoporosis. When tamoxifen was launched as a drug, it was thought that tamoxifen would act as an estrogen receptor antagonist in all tissue, including bone, and therefore it was feared that it would contribute to osteoporosis. It was therefore very surprising that the opposite effect was observed clinically. Hence tamoxifen's tissue selective action directly lead to the formulation of the concept of selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs)
