Length of rheumatoid arthritis flares?

I have had terrible pain in multiple joints for just over six weeks now. It came on after food poisoning. I have not had all the tests and am abroad at the moment but it does appear to be rheumatoid arthritis.

How long can a flare last? I am only 23 and my feet feel shot to pieces after 6 weeks.

There are three types of arthritis: rheumatoid, osteoarthritis, and infective arthritis. Rheumatoid is caused by an autoimmune problem, osteoarthritis is caused by injury or aging, and infectious arthritis is caused by a bacterial or viral infection. Since your arthritis seems to be caused by food poisoning, you probably have infectious arthritis.

You might consider getting a blood test to see if you have antibodies indicating some type of infection. Its possible that the arthritis will clear up with the proper antibiotics.
