What type of disease is Rheumatoid arthritis?

I know it's chronic, but I have to choose: genetic, nutritional, bacterial, viral, fungal, or teratogenic.
Thanks :)

None of the above. It is more correctly described as an autoimmune disorder. However, it is not so simple.

There is a genetic component to it, but this is not the only cause. There is a nutritional component to treatment [as there is with everything] as well. It is not bacterial or viral, though there is a theory that says that some type of bacteria or virus may trigger the immune response that causes the body to turn agaisnt itself.

Well my son has rheumatoid arthritis. It is a disease of the immune system. The immune system for some reason attacks the body, normally starting with the joints and can progress to the vital organs.

It has not been identified what is the true cause of this disease. It is not genetic, no one else in the family has it. The only way it could possible teratogenic is if something is wrong with the immune system at birth. I don't think it is nutritional unless, it could be caused by allergies of some kind. Who knows if it is bacterial or viral. Maybe some strand of flu or infection might have caused it. Not fungal. It was not there when he was born. He developed it in his 20's. So I'm not sure you can catogorize it.

They are developing new medicines for the wholde group of auto immune disease. The medicines that are on the market today help but they are very strong and can cause damage to organs also.

Please see the web site below:

It is an inflammatory disorder affecting your musculoskeletal system. It is of unknown cause which has a higher incidence among the elderly group. Actually, there are three types of ARTHRITIS: Gouty arthritis which is due to purine metabolism, Osteoarthritis which affects the weight-bearing joints. And the Rheumatoid Arthritis which is autoimmune-related.

Actually correct reason of rheumatoid arthritis is not known. It is some time related to some viral infections.

That disorder can be caused by lyme disease-see below for details.
