(Remember Granny on the Beverly Hillbillies and her 'rheumatiz medicine' (white lightining)??

Rheumatic fever is a specific condition caused by antibodies produced by a person in response to Streptococcus infections (most notably Group A - Strep pyogenes).
The antibodies cross react (unintentionally) with heart, liver, kidney tissue) to produce rheumatic fever.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease (a disease where your body's own immune system attacks itself deliberately).

The relationship to tonsillitis is to rheumatic fever. Strep pyogenes is a common cause of tonsillitis. If this goes untreated or under-treated, antibodies to the Strep organisms can be produced. The inadvertent cross reaction to heart, liver or kidney tissues is the ultimate cause of rheumatic fever.

Solution:
Treat sore throats with caution. Your body is trying to tell you something.
If feverish, then consult a physician for a clear diagnosis.
Antibiotics are the treatment of choice for Group A strep. A sensitivity in addition to the bacterial identification is crucial.

Group A strep is being seen as more resistant to the common antibiotics. Accurate choices of antibiotics is crucial.

Once you get a Group A strep infection, the right diet is too late. Consult a physician. Source(s): Medical Technologist / Microbiologist
