Can a person have paranoid schizophrenia but without the supernatural delusions?

I read about paranoid Achizophrenia and one of the symptoms is magical thinking, but what if a person is an atheist and doesn't believe in the supernatural?

The short answer is YES.

The DSM (diagnotic and statistical manual - the holy book of psychology) diagnoses mental disorders by saying that x amount of symptoms must be present. One need not fit every symptom to be diagnosed something, it would actually be exceptionally rare for someone to exhibit every symptom.

However, I would argue that although one may be atheist, if they are a person with schizophrenia, they may still have magical thinking. becuase when we are talking about a mental illness, we are talking about something that is distorting thinking. It need not be rational.

People can often have magical thinking like 'I feel like every song on the radio is aimed at me' (as in written for me, broadcast for me, and is telling me to do something), while later they can tell you that they know this was not logical and not true.
