If a person has schizophrenia, what kind of doctor would she see to reduce her symptoms? |
A. psychoanalyst The actual answer is a psychiatrist, but out of those I guess I would pick behaviorist. Actually, none of these are correct. A person with schizophrenia needs a psychiatrist (a medical doctor who can prescribe medication). A psychoanalyst may or may not be a medical doctor. This kind of person should see a physician of any kind. Yes, a psychiatrist is ideal but a primary care doc can get things going. In other words, as much as I don't like drugs, a schizophrenic needs meds to help with a serious neurotransmitter imbalance, largely with the dopamine and/or glutamate system. Even Freud admitted that his therapy did little to help a schizophrenic. |
