My friend has been diagnosed with schizophrenia?

my friend has this disease, please can anybody help me communicate with him. He is trying to ignore me now that he knows i know what's wrong. so I need to reassure him that I'm here to help.
does anyone know how to do this?

If he is not getting medicated, don't count on being able to communicate with him. If he is on meds, discuss this with his family.

Give him time. He will probably feel ashamed or embarrased that you know about his condition. Such an unfortunate amount of stigma still surrounds mental illness and he is probably feeling the affects of this, and frightened that you think he's a 'freak' etc.

As time goes by he will begin to accept this as a part of himself, and only then will he be able to understand that other people, such as you, are able to accept him for it too. Be there for him and let him know that you are his friend through thick and thin, but at the same time don't pressure him into talking to you until he is ready.

You could perhaps write him a letter letting him know your feelings and that you're there for him when he's ready. Then he can read it back at different times when he's in different moods and absorb what you're saying. Keep a copy of the letter too in case he throws it away if he reads it when in a bad frame of mind.

I don't know where you're from so can't tell you of anything local but I know that there are plenty of helplines and support group for the friends and families of those suffering with mental illness. If you have a look on google I'm sure you'll be able to find one, and through this you might be able to talk to people who have been in your situation and find out how they handled it, and at the same time perhaps learn a little more about the condition itself so that you can enable yourself to understand your friends moods.

Good luck. I think it is great that there are people like you in the world - so many people run a mile at the first mention of mental illness, especially ones surrounded by a great deal of stigma such scizophrenia - so it is lovely to hear of people like you willing to be loyal friends to troubled people.

if he just found out, give him time to cope and settle himself. you do not need to do anything, maybe let him approach you....give him some space. just tell him youre there for him when hes ready, then leave him alone till he's ready to talk to you about it....

Give him some time. Its a terrible diagnosis. Just continue to give your support. He may come around.

depends on the medication there on
also just talk to them normal
tell him it is no big deal alot of people get ill
