I have a friend who has schizophrenia? How to cope?

Be there for your friend as a real friend who cares. Some times you will be disappointed because your friend will not react in a normal way. Just accept him as he is. Think of schizophrenia as a disability. It's a disease of the brain that affects 1% of the population and it appears in the late teens, early twenties. It's very very sad. Your friend will have to take antipsychotic drugs all his life. Some times he will not make sense when he talks, other times he will not be able to follow the conversation, other times he will think that his friends are enemies. Just show understanding for his condition and don't have any high expectations. There is no cure. The medicine just helps a little bit.
