What is your view on schizophrenia?

i am doing a report on it

mmfrog is very wrong. Schizo is such a rare disease psych's rarely even look at that as a diagnosis. Many disorders or disease can cause audio or visual hallucinations, so it's not just schizo. In schizo, one must be dellusional AND hallucinating, seeing or hering things, and believing in something that is not at all true (mostly like someone is out to get them or that they must do a task because "someone told them to" or they will be killed, something very dramatic). Although schizo CAN be formed during life, there are MINIMAL cases where that has happened, you are BORN with it in nearly ALL cases, just signs and symptoms show up later in childhood.
Summing this all up: Schizo is very rare and a scary disease

mitch

its a sad disease that can strike anybody, usualy in their early 20s.

it can be brought on or triggered by some kind of trauma.

At least you never have to alone with it

as a schiz... it sucks... lol hes right ur never alone... but sometimes the things u see and hear arent very good things... ive learn to cope by watching others reactions... i know wat im seeing so i watch the ppl around me if they arent reacting to wat i see and hear then i dont react to it either... i take a deep breath and remind myself it isnt real most ppl who know me dont know im schizo... mine was brought about through the mental institutes and all the meds they had me on... only one other person in my family had it my mothers cousin... he killed his self in fear of hurting someone else... when i found out i was terrified that mine would get like his... so i bucked up to the plate and took control of the situation... refusing to get that bad off can sometimes save ur own life... music helps block out the things i hear ... other than that its not too bad really... im on no medications... i used to be... but they made the visions and voices worse... plus drooling on urself starring at a wall all day is no fun...

oh and btw for the dude above me... the voices is usually where u get someone telling u to do something... there are many different levels of schiz... lol ppl love to sit back and talk about things they dont quite know about... i think of all ppl i would know... so in a sence hes right but to strictly limit it to believing in it is just non sence... ur seeing something infront of u of course its gonna scare u and freak u out... hince his theory on paranoia ... but no u dont have to believe it ... fortuantely i can reason

I was diagnosed with it last year. I found it to be very surprising, because I always thought I was pretty normal. They mostly thought I was too paranoid and could be dangerous to myself and things like that. It's depressing for most people and I feel bad for others who have it.
Overall, it depends on the severity and such. I have an incredibly mild case of it while I personally know others who have been kept in mental hospitals for long periods of time because of it.

Most of us don't really know anything about it.

my view on it? what do you mean?

i think it is sad when people get it. i wish there were better cures for it. many have to deal with their whole lives.

Hello,
there are different degrees of schizophrenia.
Schizophrenia does not just hit in the early 20's, but in the late teenage years. At one point and time they say it hit boys more then girls, but because girls are good at hiding such illness's they have found that females get it as well.
"They" are now saying there is a childhood schizophrenia, however I have not read up on any resent changes.
Schizophrenia is reported to be a side effect of autism, even high functioning autism.
There is no cure for schizophrenia but can be managed with drugs. The person with schizophrenia does not want it and many times will argue that they do not have it nor need there medication.
The most well known schizophrenic of today is the Nobel Prise Winner mathematician John Nash. Ron Howard did a great movie on him . This movie is a little glimpse into the world of full fledged schizophrenia.
Hope this helps?

I've had first- hand experience of schizophrenia.
I went into a cannabis induced psychosis which effectively had me paralyzed from paranoia, which is one aspect of schizophrenia.
I also had various obsessions with certain people and things.
I had delusions of grandeur and extreme delusions about what my life was about.
My whole life felt as though it was a never ending nightmare, where i had complete control over everything that happened whether i was connected to it or not.
Most of the time i felt on a knife edge and at any moment i might completely lose control and kill myself.
I know that it is not a nice reality to be stuck in.
Finally i regained control through a controlled dosage of anti-psychotic medication, from my psychiatrist.
I hope this is of some interest to you, thanx.

Ok.i hope this helps

it's true about the guy above me said, sci don't want this disease and try to feel they don't have it.I spent my night sleeping late at 3 am for a year(since i get this disease) to think for a cure to be back to normal.I think hard as i can but it never seems to work.

but sometimes,it's really hard to tell....cause sometimes i can't say what i'm facing..no matter how bad it is.about not being alone, schi always feel that other people are with them.

for me,i had the toughest time cause i feel like everyones using what i'm thinking or a good memorize words so i can go through this hardness.it's like if yelled at someone with temper,he/she will yell at you back.it's like they'll do anything to stomp us..anyone around us.and we just sit down cannot say anything-speechless.if we think, they know and will use it back on us.
