Is schizophrenia truly an illness or does society fail to accept more than one entity sharing the same mind?

Is schizophrenia truly an illness or does society fail to accept more than one entity sharing the same mind?

Well I personally think people don't want to believe that 2 entities can inhabit one mind. It's the fact that we as a society do not understand enough about it, that causes us to fear it and call it a disorder.

I believe that as long as said 2 entities are getting along and one is not trying to tell the main entities to misbehave, or driving the main entities insane. Then the 2 should be able to live in peace, and be left alone to enjoy life.

I hope I helped in any way, Good luck,
Niam

I believe that Occam's Razor applies here.

I like the definition for it on wiki: "When multiple competing theories are equal in other respects, the principle recommends selecting the theory that introduces the fewest assumptions and postulates the fewest entities."

The idea of multiple entities assumes that the brain is capable of supporting an entity entering it. Current science does not support this notion. Find scientific evidence of entities and you might be able move forward with your idea.

I think it truly is a mental illness for those suffering from it. They don't have control over their multiple personalities and it can overtake them without their consent.
I also believe society has a hard time dealing with it and accepting it because it is such an odd illness and is extremely difficult to prove. Many people have faked it in order to get out of trouble and use it as a crutch. Those people do NOT have the illness and make life so much harder for those actually suffering with this problem.

It's the dibilitating part that gets some people.

Illness. Say hi to Eve for me.

Schizophrenia isn't Dissociative Identity Disorder (Multiple Personality Disorder).

Schizophrenia is characterized by a broad range of unusual behaviors that cause profound disruption in the lives of the patients suffering from the condition and in the lives of the people around them.

One of the most important kinds of impairment caused by schizophrenia involves the person's thought processes. The individual can lose much of the ability to rationally evaluate his surroundings and interactions with others. There can be hallucinations and delusions, which reflect distortions in the perception and interpretation of reality. The resulting behaviors may seem bizarre to the casual observer, even though they may be consistent with the schizophrenic's abnormal perceptions and beliefs.

There are many forms of schizophrenia. Not all forms are multiple personalities.

I think you are confused, schizophrenics hear voices telling them to do things, two entities in one mind would be split personality!

It's a documented illness but I guess it could just be that we don't accept the idea of more than one entity in a single head. I've kind of always had that feeling anyway. Maybe we're all just wrong?

A very common myth is that Schizophrenia and Multiple Personalities (Modern term is Disassociated Identity Disorder) is the same thing. They are not.
Schizophrenia is a disease that is commonly passed genetically and causes the mind to hallucinate. The mind has ONE entity, but the person can sometimes hear voices or see things that aren't there, which can cause people to think they are talking to other entities in their mind, causing the confusion between Schizophrenia and DID.
DID is caused by childhood trauma where the mind protects itself from the tragic memories by giving them to someone else and so it forms a new person, or personality, in the mind to store the bad memories. Once a split has occurred, the mind now knows how to do it for any occasion and a colony of entities can form in the mind.

Both the illness and the disorder are very real.

Schizophrenia is not Multiple Personality Disorder.

A common misconception by the ignorant and ill informed.
