Diagnosing schizophrenia?

Can't it be done with like an MRI scan or some kind of test, instead of having to wait until full blown psychotic episodes??? The problem with this illness is diagnosing it, there should be tests but i suppose thats kind of hard until the root cause of the illness is established or if they find anything that cen detect it.

There is currently no physical or lab test that can absolutely diagnose schizophrenia - a psychiatrist usually comes to the diagnosis based on clinical symptoms. What physical testing can do is rule out a lot of other conditions (seizure disorders, metabolic disorders, thyroid disfunction, brain tumor, street drug use, etc) that sometimes have similar symptoms...

Unfortunately, there is no laboratory test for schizophrenia.

There is widespread corruption in the mental health system, oftentimes people are lynched into it for a variety of reasons.

Probably very few people are not going to get a mental health diagnosis in the 21st century, it is more than just mental health services and drug company marketing, but that is a large part of it.

Totally expect that a goodly number of the people who claim to be attacked by 'radio waves' are really victims of those 'crowd control' weapons as seen on 60 minutes.

Those devices have been out in the field as tools of private security companies for the past decade, but the public is just beginning to learn of them. Very likely the 'capitol hill shooter' who killed two security guards in 1998 was a victim of those devices. I am not saying he was not crazy, I just believe his claim of being attacked by 'radio waves', was done to agitate him.
