Question about schizophrenia?

I recently learned that my birth-mother had it. And that it can be brought out by alocohol. I've drank before and I'm fine but does that mean i could develop it latter and does it mean im safe to drink later in life?

It takes an alcoholic to bring out the trait, not just moderate drinking. Enjoy you some alcohol, just don't over do it. Besides, the last thing you want is to not drink any alcohol and get it anyway. Enjoy your life.

Anything done in moderation can be safe, remember you have the dna for that trait, so I would not drink, nor do drugs of any kind too much. Protect your sanity, thazt's all you got in life.

It could be passed on through genes, but it really depends. I'd suggest not drinking at all, but it's your choice. If you do drink, just watch yourself... pay attention to how you're feeling. If you start having any Schizophrenia symptoms, talk to your doctor as soon as possible.

I never heard the alcohol connection. But in the past they used to believe that it was from a family history and were confused because statistically, half of the cases could not produce an ancestor who had it.

The latest thinking is that it may be caused by a genetic pre-disposition and triggered by a bad bout with a Childhood disease and/or virus and typically manifests itself with the onset of puberty.

please don't think because your mom had it your going to also that's not always true, if you ever think your having mental health problems , than talk to your parents or get a hold of a mental health services , but don't worry so much about it, ,

there is a possibility of developing it after but no later than 30 year of age, it usually comes on between ages 20-30, it can be brought out by usually illegal drugs / legal drugs or withdrawal from them. remember alcohol it also a drug (drug-anything that effects the mind or behavior) so yes alcohol could potentially bring it out, but shouldve be too woried alcohol is different but i would limit my drinking just to be safe.
