Schizophrenia and Dissociative Identity Disorder? |
Is is possible to have both disorders at the same time? For example is it possible to be diagnosed with both paranoid schizophrenia and dissociative identiy disorder? In the movie Hide and Seek did Robert DeNiro (David Callaway/Charlie)suffer from both paranoid schizophrenia and dissociative identity disorder? while dsm4 doesnt out and out say they cant co-occur i think these two being paired is way too unlikely and anyone who diagnosed them together would have to really back it up to other professionals. schizophrenia involves bizarre behavior and sometimes the patient will claim to not remember much about the episode oncethey are medicated and stabilized but this is not the same as D.I.D where criteria dictates there be 2 totally separate entities. in this movie, if i remember it right, it would be dissociation b/c the dad didnt know about it at all... also charlie may better be described as antisocial rather than schizo just a thought Yes, it is possible to have both disorders at the same time.
