Schizophrenia and Meth...? |
My brother has been diagnosed with schizophrenia for about 8 years now, and just the other day he had told us that he had been doing meth. We don't know whether or not to believe him. I've looked up some info about meth.. I would just like to know what kind of affects it can have on him, and his schizophrenia.. and how exactly to tell if he is doing it.. If he has been doing it, its probably only been for a couple weeks.. Meth psychosis is a very real thing and is quite similar to schizophrenia in many ways. It may be hard to tell is a schizophrenic is using meth based on outward actions alone. There are many other tell-tale signs of meth use aside from hallucinations. It can have adverse affects on his schizophrenia by making it 10 times worse. Meth also causes other mood disorders such as bi-polar, depression, and anxiety. Meth causes your teeth to rote, hair to fall out, causes you to pick at yourself; leaving holes in your skin, causes organ damage, and shaking. Meth causes you to steal and lie. Meth users become highly addicted and dependent on the drug, it takes miracles to get someone off of it. Since he is schizorphrenic chances are he will find him self in a room by himself picking at the walls, hiding from the window cause every light he sees go by he thinks is the cops trying to get him. He could run around in a field for 10 hours at night and think it is just one. Because this is simply the life of a tweaker (drug usser) NOT a good combination!!! Excessive meth use can in itself cause pyschosis, there is even a phenomenon called "Meth Schizophrenia". I have an idea of how you can tell if he is using, the next time he goes to his mental health doc, ask the doctor privately to do a drug screen on his next lab. I am sure your brother is on meds and needs periodic lab work. Tell the doctor why you are requesting this, or have your parent(s) ask him to do this. He cannot be arrested for having it in his system, and if your brother respects his doctor, then this doctor needs to get on his butt about it. I can only imagine how worried you guys are about him. Good luck and God bless! when people do meth it starts totally eating thier teeth skin ect one of my friend lost one of his kidneys cuz of it and he almost got a heart attack cuz he could feel it his arm was stiff and yea anyways meth is by far the worst drug ever you lose your hair it eats you organs and it just something that will mess up your life |
