My step brother we think he has schizophrenia is he dangerous ?

last night he had a big outburst which started out from a nice conversation with my step-dad.
he basically said hell kill us.
we donot know much about him because he and my step dad were not talking for the last 9 years. they lost contact till 6 weeks ago he called my dad saying he has no place to live and my dad saied that he should live with us.
anyways do schizos.. keep they promises or do they usually say crap they dont even know they saying?

Are you diagnosing him as schizophrenic? Schizophrenics (it is not a single disease but a spectrum of disorders) are no more violent than "normal" people. It is dangerous and usually wrong to diagnose a mental disorder if you are not a qualified psychiatrist. Look up "schizophrenia" in a Yahoo! web search for more info on it. Wikipedia has a good summary.

If these two people had not been speaking for 9 years they obviously do not like one another; it is not surprising their first exchange of words after that time was violent. This is not a symptom of schizophrenia.

Good luck with your brother, good mental health, peace and Love!

If your step dad hasn't been in touch with him for 9 years, he probably doesn't have a clear idea of how his son's illness has evolved. On the other hand, he may feel very guilty and obligated to help him. If your step brother is paranoid, he may indeed be a dangerous schizophrenic. Probably he has been prescribed medicine that he is not taking. That sound's crazy, but schizophrenic people are usually quite smart, and if the medicine makes them feel out of it, they tend to quit. That's when the problems start. One of my cousins is schizophrenic, and his family has had a hard row to hoe because they really couldn't control his behavior, and health authorities weren't nearly as helpful as they would have been if he had smallpox or typhoid.

A friend of mine has schizophrenia, and he lives at home. and does fine as long as takes his medicine. Your step brother probably needs to be seen by a doctor, and needs to get on medications. They can be dangerous when they don't take their meds, and they need to be under the care of a psychiatrist.
