Am i at risk of getting Schizophrenia ? |
I have never had any contact with my biological father and i have recently found out that he has died. You have an increased risk, but it sounds as though you're fine, lol. Not really. If you are say 25 you're probably safe. it is normal for anyone to be scared of getting any type of illness or disease,so please know you are not alone. What you might want to do is do some research on the internet about schizophrenia to help you better understand it..Not everyone who gets schizphrenia has a relative with it. Schizophrenia does tend to be passed through genes, but keep in mind that it can also be treated and contained. You probably aren't at risk of developing Schizo. I would suggest you research it though.. and if you are scared you should see a psychiatrist. No! In my humble opinion there is no definitive scientific evidence that any of the types of disorders in the schizophrenic spectrum are hereditary. The public understanding of and misinformation on these disorders is abysmal. If you want to find out more about the diseases type "schizophrenia" into yahoo! web search. In the many links that come up wikipedia has a good summary. You do not have to worry about it! Well, I'd suggest some research into the disease. Find out some common symptoms and watch out for them (although it usually doesn't come around until mid-20's for most people). What I do not suggest, however, is to become obsessed about every single thing; don't think every symptom is an indicator and if you've had a small case of a single symptom once and don't freak. As long as you're aware of it and catch it before you degenerate, you'll be fine (if you even get it, which isn't a large probability). Don't worry; you sound mentally healthy to me. There is a lot on the internet you can read about schizophrenia, that might help put you at ease (I hope!) Take a look at these: |
