Dealing with schizophrenia at 13?

i was recently diagnosed with schizophrenia. im 13 years old and am having a really hard time adjusting. they put me on a drug called risperdal. its helping the voices a little but makes me super dizzy and zombie like. so my question is does anybody have any advice for dealing with this for me and my family? anything would be helpful. thanks.

I have been on that medication too, and usually your body takes a week or two to adjust to it a bit before you get some energy back, I didn't get dizziness but I did have a lot of time adjusting when I got up out of bed, it's like I was still half asleep for most of the day. It does get better and you will start feeling more or less normal soon.

I think it's important for family and yourself to understand the condition and the symptoms and what you can expect.. who ever prescribed you the medication is bound to have plenty of pamphlets and information available.

I don't know a lot ...just that the doctors take a long time adjusting medication because it takes a while to see the affects. I had a friend who became psychotic and they gave her a fairly large dose at first to get the episode under control and then very gradually dropped the dose to a level where she wasn't quite so zombie. She also drank a fair bit of water to cope with the meds dehydrating her.

...I really just wanted to say hang in there. It's like you've got into a new car that will take some getting used to but it's still you driving. My friend is still very much herself even when she's in the middle of an episode

hi,i have also been on that med and yes,it can cause that, but it will take a little while for your body to get adjusted to it,if these side effects get to bothersome, you might want to mention it to your doc and see what he says,he might put you on a lower dose.
