Schizophrenia- What does tht mean?

someone asked a question but i obviously couldn't answer it cause he was asking if he had tht saying he heard chatting in his head and he felt something touching his feet over his blanket at night and afterwards he got a tingling sensation all over his body can someone tell me what tht means thanx!!

The public understanding and misinformation on these disorders is abysmal. For example; several answers here assume, even state, it is a "splitting of the mind". It is not that. That was a term used in the dark ages of psychiatry (late 1800's to early 1900's).

For schizophrenia paranoia it is "hearing voices" and "seeing things" others can not sense.The "voices" are like mental telepathy. The trauma of these experiences leads one to come up with some rational explanation of what is causing them leading to various "delusions" or false beliefs. Delusions are very common in modern society so this is not so strange. Schizophrenics are no more violent than any other "normal" person.

schizophrenia is a form of mental condition that, affects several areas of the brain(its been seen in brain scans) it affects the sensory systems in the brain casuing halucinations. also it affects the memorys of the indivual causing delusions(false memorys) their language is also screwed and they speak inchompresnibly. and emotion is also affected making it absent. not all of these wil aflict someone with schizophrenia. there are also several types of it as well and many theories as to how it devlops. but the above symptoms are the main ones.

There is no actual disease called schizophrenia. It is a catch-all term for profound mental illness. The mental health professions vacillate (go back and forth) about the meaning of "schizophrenia" because it is an attractive word to use as a label, even though an actual definition has never been nailed down. In a nutshell, if someone presents with what might be called "profound" mental illness, it is very likely that someone may label the person a schizophrenic.

Schizophrenia is a 100 year old term. It's usage in medicine has undergone change. But in law it always means you're nuts or need serious medication. It is because of this unchanging 'legal' meaning that the word's popularity has survived over time.

The term schizophrenia is not useful medically because it has never referred to a specific illness. Instead, it refers loosely to any assortment of bizarre (really wierd) behaviors that people might want to assign such a label to. Of course, there will be argument about this. Some people will say that schizophrenia is often misdiagnosed. What they really mean to say is that people may apply the label more broadly than is legally or medically productive.

Think of it this way. The doctor cannot send a sample to the lab, like when you have a sore throat and they think you might have strep throat or something. Instead, people are subjected to a battery (assortment) of subjective tests (unscientific tests based on the doctor's personal opinion), and the doctor will pull a diagnosis (label) out of the hat.

The labeling process is often tainted by transference and bias. For example, the judge, police officer, or relative may indicate to the doctor that they think the person is nuts. The doctor may then "transfer" this view onto his or her own judgment. In effect, it can boil down to a social decision in many cases.

Of course, in other cases, the person is so far gone that it does not take any real training to know something is profoundly wrong. But it helps legally to have an authority figure (doctor) to assign a label (like schizophrenia) that has legal meaning. When people speak of schizophrenia being frequently "misdiagnosed", they really mean that doctors are sometimes willing to assign this label even when the person is not that far gone.

Instead, the doctor may be accomodating bias and other people's suggestions about what needs to be legally done.

Moral of the Story: Just because the system is flawed doesn't mean people aren't crazy, and just because people are crazy doesn't mean the system isn't flawed.

Schizophrenia literally means "split mind". What you described sounds like tactile, auditory, and visual hallucinations. I don't have enough info to tell you any more.
