I'm afraid of getting schizophrenia? |
my aunt had it and I'm afraid of inheriting it from her. I saw how much it ruined her life. I just want to have a normal life and have kids someday.I'm 18 I was wrongly diagnosed with depression by a stupid doctor he didn't even do any tests on me, he just had a ''hunch'' I had it because my dad told the therapist he thought I had depression because I stayed in my room alot but really I just got an xbox and was hooked on it played all the time. But now I got this fear of getting schizophrenia from my aunt. Is there any way of preventing Generally the onset on Schizoprenia is 17 and you would know if you have it. You sound very articulate and mature ... not something one with schizoprenia would be able to express. Life has it's ups and downs for sure ... and sometimes depression is just a phase for many and comes and goes. I personally think you sound pretty A.O.K. and think your chances of being mentally handicapped are -0- but I understand why you would be worried. Tell your dad to lighten up and have some fun! Please dont let the fear of getting schizophrenia ruin your happiness, but I would encourage you to hang out with friends more and build a strong social circle, and its ok to be diagnosed with depression, its pretty common and doesnt always lead to schizophrenia! But do not isolate yourself, take care of your body and dont use any drugs, and eat healthy. That helps keep you physically and emotionally fit, yes you can get it but the sky could also fall on you. what you need to do is stop worring about it. i know it was hard to watch your aunt go though t but chances are she had it since she was an early teen. also if cought early enough it can be treated. you may want to do heavy reasurch on it. there are many kinds one kind is you hear voices the other kind is you think people are after you. also there are tests they can do to see how at risk you are. We have it in our family tree as well, doesn't everyone ?? id say a99 percent no way. your a teenager your normal so forget unwise judgements on you. you are you and we are all different. Just erase that thought from your mind. You can be the person you want to be, Set goals, have a plan,Stick with it and be good to your body(healthy) You'll be fine. Schizophrenia is only inherited by people with certain genes. Your chances are slim since Your not your Aunts son. Best of luck to you. Maybe spend some more time with your parents. It only takes a little bit to make parents happy. |
