Could my teen aged friend have schizophrenia?

He is a teen, as said in my question title. He has thoughts, he says, that he 'did not think', and won't go away, like people who keep putting thoughts in his mind. I know it sounds weird, but it just is very hard to explain. He says that he sees many scary, shadowy figures. Help?

For the other symptoms, click on my name, and you should see my profile. Then scroll down and view my questions, and you can read all of my questions. Everything that I post is about this person. You see, if you guys were to see other 'symptoms', then maybe you could give more accurate answers. Help!

He should see a doctor. The doctor could also take blood work and find out if there is a physical problem that might be causing this.

The symptoms you mention don't automatically mean schizophrenia. Somebody could have psychotic symptoms as part of depression, for example. It could also be a sleep problem. Some people have weird dreams just because they have some minor illness that keeps them from sleeping very well. If he is into drugs, that might have something to do with it. You also mentioned some physical complaints that apparently pertain to the same person. It's really up to a doctor to decide what it is and what do about it.

If somebody answers here and says "oh yeah, I think he has such and such a problem", well, it's not really going to help very much. Even if they are correct, he's still going to need to see a doctor to get any real help.

He may well be suffering from a schizophreniform disorder, but this requires an EXPERT DIAGNOSIS. He would be well advised to consult a doctor, and ask for a referral, or contact the county/local mental health agency, ASAP, because these disorders only get worse, without effective treatment, which may include medication, and therapy. I provide non medication options in sections 40, 10, and 2, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris but if these prove insufficient, after a maximum trial period of, say, 6 months, then it is time to accept that medication is necessary. Offer to go with him. Quizzes for bipolar, unipolar depression, & schizophrenia screening are via sections 10, 2, & 1.

this may sound stange and totaly out of left field but he may just be psychic and pick up on other peopls thoughts i am a beliver in that kind of thing, as for shadow figures i dont know what that is but in any case i would ask him to get help or seek help for him because it sounds as though something is wrong

It sounds like you are talking about thought insurcion(sp?)...where the "subject" feels that someone is putting thoughts in their brain...by force.

It can be a sign of schizophrenia...but he should really be seen by a trained professional who can make this judgement .

Having schizo can be very frightning...

Take care

The idea of people putting thoughts into his mind is a pretty common one in schizophrenia.

If it was the beginnings of schizophrenia, it would be a really bad sign if he had some intense feeling that something very major or significant was about to happen, or a huge feeling of impending doom.

After that doom-type feeling it can go into psychosis. Then he would completely lose touch with reality, would think that say the tv had messages for him, car number plates had special meanings for him, etc. And he could actually be dangerous, as he would not know what he was doing. He would have no idea he was ill, and may end up being forcibly detained and treated.

I am not quite sure why you are asking the question. Yes it could be an indication that he may develop full-blown schizophrenia, or it could be something else.

There was some recent Australian research into preventing full-blown schizophrenia developing. You might be able to get him to try it, as it has no side effects, and it has been found to be very effective:

I am schizophrenic, so I do have a pretty good knowledge of the subject.

I really do not think i need to do that thank you. I think that your friend , if he or she is having this problem should go and see a professional that can tell them just what is going on with them for sure and help them with it. It could be something else different. There are so many things out there, that are so close that you really need to see the person, to know what is going on, and going on a internet and asking people or looking it up, well sometimes you guys just get carryed away with all of the things that you could have, but you do not have. There are keys to these, and so the person really needs to be seen in person, maybe more then once to be told just what is really going onfor sure, and then, sometimes they may not even be able to tell them right away then. So please get some professional help for this person...thank you .............
